On Thursday, May 28, 2020 the Union County Senior Fairboard met to determine what the 2020 Union County Fair would look like. The current guidelines and restrictions due to Covid-19 are financially restricting. We appreciate the community and sponsor support we have received in the past and hope you will continue to support us during these unprecedented times.
After much deliberation, the Governor’s announcement yesterday leaving fairs up to the local health department, conversations with our health department officials, and wanting to prevent the potential spread of the virus, the board decided to not have grandstand entertainment, merchants, midway rides and games, or open class events. The board then voted unanimously to hold a Jr. Fair only with limited attendance and concessions.
Due to our internet upgrade last year and previous discussions; we will have the ability to live stream all shows. This will allow family members unable to attend to still watch their exhibitors.
Included in the vote was to allow harness racing on the scheduled dates as that program is self sustaining and funded by the state, no fair monies are involved. There will be no spectators due to the social distancing requirements.
There are many details such as schedules, camping, social distancing and cleaning requirements, etc. that need to be worked out. We are in communication with our local health department, the county extension office, and our livestock committee and horse council, to make the best out of this event. We want our 4H and FFA exhibitors to have the opportunity to showcase their hard work, while maintaining everyone’s safety. We ask that you be patient and we will share information with you as it becomes available.
As always please reach out to us with any questions but remember this is still a work in progress. Updates will be posted on our web site and social media as they become available.
